Logitech’s Pop Icon Combo follows up on the company’s previous release of the Pop Keys wireless mechanical keyboard, known for its vibrant colors and retro, round keytops. The Pop Icon version, however, replaces the mechanical keys with quieter, low-profile chiclet-style keys, offering a more traditional feel. While the original Pop Keys had a typewriter-like aesthetic, the Pop Icon keyboard has a more professional look, although it retains the cheerful color schemes, available in lilac, graphite, off-white, and rose.
My review unit featured a sleek all-black design with neon-green key labels. The keyboard uses membrane switches instead of mechanical ones, making it much quieter to type on. Its compact size strikes a balance between portability and usability, providing a stable and comfortable typing experience. The keys are responsive, and I quickly adapted to typing with ease.
The keyboard is powered by two AA batteries, which Logitech claims will last up to three years. However, it’s not backlit, so if you frequently work in low-light environments, this might be a drawback. The Pop Icon Keys are compatible with major operating systems, including Windows, macOS, iPadOS, iOS, Android, ChromeOS, and Linux. Switching between paired devices is seamless, using the top function row keys.
Software: Customization and AI Integration
What impressed me most about the Pop Icon Combo is the level of customization available through Logi Options+, Logitech’s customization software. This tool allows users to personalize 15 keys on the keyboard, offering a range of options like shortcuts, file launches, or recommended AI actions. One of the standout features is Smart Actions, which lets you perform multiple tasks with a single button press.
The four action keys on the right can be fully customized to launch specific programs like ChatGPT, Spotify, or Adobe Firefly. Logitech’s AI Prompt Builder is another interesting addition. This feature allows users to create prompts and engage with AI directly from the keyboard or mouse. Currently, the Prompt Builder is compatible with ChatGPT, enabling users to enter text, adjust parameters, and receive responses based on predefined “recipes.” This AI integration is a creative tool that can enhance productivity.
