FX’s Japanese period drama Shogun achieved a historic feat at the Creative Arts Emmys, winning 14 awards and surpassing the previous record of 13 set by the 2008 limited series John Adams. Shogun excelled across multiple categories, including Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Picture Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Period Costumes, Best Production Design, and more. The show’s success is attributed to its outstanding portrayal of 17th-century feudal Japan, based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel, and its impressive cast, including Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, Cosmo Jarvis, and Tadanobu Asano.
In the comedy category, The Bear also performed well, securing 7 wins. These included awards for Best Sound Mixing, Best Picture Editing, and Best Guest Actress in a Comedy for Jamie Lee Curtis, her first Emmy in the category. Other notable winners included The Morning Show, The Crown, Only Murders in the Building, Ripley, Baby Reindeer, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
The main Emmys ceremony, hosted by Dan and Eugene Levy, is set to air on September 15 at 5:30 PM IST on ABC, where Shogun could extend its record further with five additional nominations.
