Bangladesh, riding high from their 2-0 series win against Pakistan, suffered a heavy defeat as India secured a comprehensive seven-wicket victory in the second Test at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, clinching the series 2-0. Despite only 35 overs being bowled on the rain-affected opening day and two days lost to rain, Bangladesh failed to extend the game beyond the fourth day. India bowled Bangladesh out for 146 in the morning session and chased the modest 95-run target with ease after lunch.
Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusinghe admitted that India’s aggressive approach caught them off-guard, especially on Day 4. Despite a brief resistance from Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shadman Islam, Bangladesh crumbled quickly after Shanto’s dismissal, losing four wickets in just three runs. Key batters like Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan fell cheaply, and the team lost eight wickets in the morning session.
Hathurusinghe acknowledged Bangladesh’s batting struggles and the quality of the opposition, praising India’s well-established system and calling for similar improvements in Bangladesh’s cricketing setup. The defeat highlighted Bangladesh’s inconsistency, particularly with the bat, as India extended their dominance with their 18th consecutive home series win.
