Sanju Samson’s consecutive centuries against South Africa in the T20I series have left former Pakistan cricketer Ahmad Shahzad in awe of his aggressive batting display. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Shahzad was captivated by Samson’s power-hitting, saying he couldn’t believe if he was “dreaming or watching wide awake.”
Shahzad praised Samson’s explosive shot selection, especially a back-foot shot over mid-off against Markram, describing it as a tone-setting stroke. “From the second over, Samson was hitting sixes all over the park… Today, he was in full ‘dhobi-mode,’ whipping South Africa with powerful strikes,” Shahzad said, adding that Samson seemed determined to dominate. Shahzad noted that scoring 107 runs in just 50 balls with ten sixes and seven fours is no small feat, highlighting that the Indian selectors can no longer overlook Samson’s talent.
Shahzad also acknowledged the broader trend of Asian cricketers dominating at home, particularly against Australia and South Africa. He compared Samson’s aggressive style to the spirit of facing down challenges. “Samson looked like he was saying, ‘Whoever you are, bring it on; today, it’s me versus you,’” he continued, adding that Samson’s innings left South African bowlers astonished.
Looking forward, Shahzad expressed excitement about Indian player Abhishek Sharma potentially reaching his full potential, drawing a comparison to the great Yuvraj Singh’s aggressive batting style. “Sometimes a player just needs that one defining innings,” Shahzad added, voicing hope that Sharma’s breakthrough performance is just around the corner.
