IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is experiencing long queues and crowded counters at airports due to a network-wide technical glitch. The issue, described by the airline as a “temporary system slowdown,” has impacted both check-in processes and the airline’s website and booking system.
In an advisory, IndiGo acknowledged the problem and assured passengers it is working to resolve the issue promptly. The airline warned of longer wait times and extended queues until normalcy is restored. However, the specific nature of the glitch remains undisclosed.
“We are currently facing a system slowdown across our network, affecting our website and booking system. This may lead to delays in check-ins and longer queues at airports,” the airline said, adding that their airport teams are dedicated to assisting passengers.
Since early afternoon, passengers have expressed frustration on social media over the large crowds at IndiGo counters and issues with booking flights. Economist Rathin Roy criticized the situation on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the inconvenience caused by the airline’s IT issues.
IndiGo, which holds over 60% of India’s domestic aviation market and operates approximately 2,100 flights daily, both domestic and international, plays a vital role in the country’s civil aviation network. A significant disruption in its operations could severely impact the industry.
