Whenever we hear the name Himachal Pradesh there’s an image of snow and mountains that
comes to our mind. Himachal Pradesh is a northern state in India, which is famous for its
mountainous landscapes. Also, it is rich in cultural heritage, Himachal is called the land of Gods.
It’s a home to every tribe and community living here and we can see the cultural diversity in
every part of Himachal, whether it is the upper region or lower region. There is no specific
language or tradition, every district has its own culture and language. They follow their own
traditions and rituals. If we talk about their beliefs in Gods it also differs from tribe to tribe and
community to community, and the way of worshipping is also different. Every community
worship its own God which they call Devi’s and Devta’s, Himachal doesn’t have a specific
culture or language and that makes the cultural diversity more beautiful as a way of acceptance
towards every culture and way of living.
They are preserving their legacies, culture, and tradition and that is a good thing since
Nowadays people are forgetting their traditions as Western culture is making its mark in our
present generation and if this goes on its not far when we will all forget our traditions. But if we
see Himachal right now, we can still see that a lot of traditional values is still in the people be it
the elders or the youths. In the middle hills of Himachal, people worship many local gods and
goddesses. Buddhism can also be seen progressing in some places of Himachal. The official
language of this state is Pahari and Hindi, but some other languages like Kangri, Mandyali,
Bharmouri, Kinnauri, Chambyali and Kulvi are also commonly used by Himachal people.
Himachali have strong belief in their Gods and Goddess, there are a lot of temples located in
Himachal and that’s why the Himachal region is known as ‘Dev Bhoomi’. We can see the
reflection of Himachali culture and tradition in their dance and music. Every district of Himachal
has a different form of dance and music, but there are some particular dance forms like Nati,
Rakshas, Nritya, Dangi, Lasa and Nagas are danced all over the region.
Himachali costume is also different in all the districts, mostly people in Himachal wear woolen
clothes as it suits the climate. The women of Himachal wear Dhattu and shawls, and men wear
kurtas and Himachali caps. Himachali outfits have vibrant colors. One thing which is a must in
traditional wear, is the Himachali Cap. Himachali people call it the crown of Himachal. There are
sentiments and emotions that are connected with this cap. This kind of cultural diversity makes
Himachal more beautiful
